May 5, 2009 — Kenny Chesney ran into a real guster on Saturday when the first stadium date of his Sun City Carnival Tour — at Pizza Hut Park in Frisco, Texas — was called off shortly after he started his part of the show.
Severe weather drenched the field, though the audience stayed with it through two opening acts, Miranda Lambert and Lady Antebellum. Sugarland had cancelled its performance, citing throat problems, and with the rain pouring down, Kenny came out early, according to Country Aircheck.
The weather, however, refused to cooperate. Kenny's band and crew struggled to get on-stage equipment covered, and flashes of lightning drew ever closer. Kenny shut down the show early, but he plans to go back to the Da llas area May 17 to do a proper concert, though details of the whole production are incomplete.
"We've extended the invitation to everybody who was on the bill Saturday," Kenny says, "and we're waiting to see who might be available. When we know, we'll be able to very quick let everybody know down there. For me, though, right now, it's about me and my fans — and us getting together again to do what we started, the way that Dallas deserves."
The date works pretty well in Kenny's schedule. In the three days leading up to the show, he plays Birmingham; Bossier City, La.; and Little Rock, so he'll already be in the region. Neither Miranda, Lady A nor Sugarland has a date booked May 17, so it's not impossible Kenny might reconstruct the entire lineup. The rain date comes just two days before the release of Kenny's next album, Greatest Hits II.
