May 6, 2009 — Country music has been very, very good to Trace Adkins, and his family is reaping the rewards.
Trace has four daughters, and their home environment in Nashville is entirely different from what he experienced growing up in tiny Sarepta, La.
"My kids, they live in a neighborhood where a lot of their little friends [live] just right down the street," he told Suzanne Alexander on the national radio show GAC Nights: Live From Nashville. "I never had that. Growing up in a real rural environment, you don't have that where you've got all your neighborhood friends and you could just walk over to each other's houses. It didn't work that way. It was a good 20-minute bicycle ride to visit a friend when I grew up."
His home life is par t of what helped Trace sell the lyrics of "You're Gonna Miss This," which Trace sang live a year ago on the final episode of the Donald Trump reality series "The Celebrity Apprentice." Trace is set to return to the "Apprentice" this Sunday for a three-hour installment that pits Joan Rivers against poker player Annie Duke. Later this month, Trace will appear in the National Memorial Day Concert from Washington, D.C. After that, he hits the road with Toby Keith on the America's Toughest Tour.
