May 29, 2009 — Billy Currington edged his way into the Top 15 this week on the USA Today country singles chart with "People Are Crazy," a song that's turned plenty of heads among his fans and in the business.
And Billy pretty much predicted that would happen. The hook — "God is great, beer is good and people are crazy" — has a simple, unique twist. And it even stands out in a list of songs.
"I loved the title alone," Billy told The Norfolk Daily News. "It's so true because we are all crazy in our own ways. When I first saw the title of the song, it made me smile. I just couldn't wait to hear it."
In the end, of course, one of the characters in the song dies, leaving a bundle of cash to someone he spoke to only once in a bar. It's darkly humorous, but it's also insightful about the human condition.
"You never know who you're talking to and how you affect them with whatever you said or did in that short time — and what's going to become of it after that," Billy noted. "In this case, the guy ends up with quite a few million dollars."
The "People Are Crazy" video currently ranks at No. 5 on GAC's Top 20 Country Countdown. Billy will the song when he opens for Sugarland Friday in Kansas City and when he headlines Saturday at Billy Bob's Texas in Fort Worth.
