May 6, 2009 — Keith Urban was slated to do a final rehearsal Tuesday in Uncasville, Conn., as he prepares for his long-awaited Escape Together World Tour, but even as he gives himself a day of rest before the launch, you can bet he'll be working through it all internally.
"A lot of things go through my mind," Keith says of the hours and days before the start of a tour. "I mostly play the show in my head over and over trying to visualize anything that could be improved upon. I guess in a way, I'm just getting more and more familiar with the show. But as structured as it is, I always leave spaces for spontaneity."
One thing that's not quite spontaneous is his habit of jumping into the crowd for a guitar solo. Keith does it regularly in his concerts, and the right seat will get ticket-holders a chance to see Keith up close this time around. He's built the Escape Together stage specifically to ease his entry into the crowd. Sugarland is the first opening act who will work with Keith this summer, but there are plenty of others, too. He'll be joined on the road by Dierks Bentley, Glen Campbell, Taylor Swift, Lady Antebellum and the Zac Brown Band.
