Miranda Lambert Hits the Tables in Vegas

April 1, 2009 — A year ago, Miranda Lambert won the Academy of Country Music's Album of the Year award for Crazy Ex-Girlfriend. This year, she returns to the "44th Annual Academy of Country Music Awards" as a double nominee, but before she kicks into gear with show duties, she plans to hit the casinos — if she can just get past McCarran International Airport.
"I hate Vegas baggage claims," she told Suzanne Alexander on the national radio show GAC Nights: Live From Nashville. "I dread that every day of my life. But then I get to the hotel, and my mom and her two best friends, our two best friends, always come out for the ACMs. So I usually meet up with them and try to find a cheap blackjack table. That sort of frees your mind, 'cause after the first day there, it's usually like rehearsals and interviews and rush, rush, rush until the show's actually over. So I try to like get a little bit of fun in before it starts."
Miranda's a nominee this year for Top Female Vocalist, and her "Gunpowder & Lead" is in the running for Single Record of the Year. Look for Miranda among the performers when the ACMs air on CBS with host Reba McEntire Sunday at 8 p.m. ET. Other women in the lineup include Heidi Newfield, Miley Cyrus, Taylor Swift and Lee Ann Womack. Suzanne Alexander, Nan Kelley and Storme Warren host the ACM Orange Carpet live on GAC Sunday at 7 p.m. ET.
