June 12, 2009 — Miranda Lambert has set a title and release date for her third album, Willie Nelson is planning yet another in his long line of standards projects, and Clay Walker has a significant duet partner on tap for his next album.
Those are just a few of the updates on forthcoming releases that have emerged in the last couple of days. Among the albums in the works:
• Miranda's already released "Dead Flowers," the first single from her next album, which is due Sept. 29. It's titled Revolution, and Miranda calls it "the most artistic project I have ever done." "It's a compilation of everything I have ever listened to and fell in love with," she explains. "It's not an album where you listen from song to song, it's a state of mind, a way of life. I hope people have as much fun getting to know me through listening as I did getting to know myself in20recording it." The two guys from Lady Antebellum, Charles Kelley and Dave Haywood, provide background vocals on one track.
• The official press release announcing Willie Nelson's American Classic album calls it "his first album of standards since Stardust." Actually, Willie's cranked out several projects featuring traditional pop songs: 1981's Somewhere Over The Rainbow, 1983's Without A Song and 1988's What A Wonderful World. The latest, landing Aug. 25, features duets with Norah Jones and Diana Krall as he explores such landmark songs as "Fly Me To The Moon," "The Nearness Of You" and "Ain't Misbehavin'."
• Jack Ingram has enlisted producer Jay Joyce — who's worked in various capacities with the Wallflowers, Eric Church and Crowded House — to produce the final tracks for Big Dreams & High Hopes, due in late August. "I come from a place where you do rock a little harder; you do make those guitars sting a bit," Jack says. "The more I looked at what we're doing, what we've done, the more I realized that maybe that piece of me wasn't on this album yet, and this is a piece of me that is very much something Jay really understands."
• Love And Theft, earning high marks for its first single "Runaway," plans Aug. 25 for the release of its debut album, World Wide Open.
• Clay Walk er just finished recording a new album, which he anticipates will be in stores by the end of the year. He told The Detroit Free Press it will include a duet with Randy Owen on the Alabama classic "Feels So Right."
• Vince Gill is Mr. Harmony, having sung with such acts as Reba McEntire, George Strait and Conway Twitty. He's also provided background vocals for a track by rock music's Daughtry. The song, "Tennessee Line," is on the band's Leave This Town album, due July 14.
• The original Broadway cast for 9 To 5: The Musical recorded an album of the score, written by Dolly Parton, May 3-4, according to AllAboutCountry.com. It will be released July 14.
A Boy Named Blue: The Bluegrass Tribute To The Goo Goo Dolls comes out July 28. It's the latest in a series of albums from CMH Records that feature bluegrass albums interpretations of music by significant rock acts. Just a few of the other releases include Black & Bluegrass: A Tribute To Ozzy Osbourne, Pick This Way: A Bluegrass Tribute To Aerosmith and Strummin' With The Devil: The Southern Side Of Van Halen.
