June 8, 2009 — Lady Antebellum got a chance to showcase its current single, "I Run To You," during the "44th Annual Academy of Country Music Awards" in April, and that moment has had a huge impact on the band's career.
Sales of Lady A's first album immediately doubled after that performance, and they've never slowed down. The CD, currently ranked No. 11 on the Billboard country albums chart, has found a particularly strong audience on the Internet. It's remained in the Top 10 on iTunes for a whopping 14 months.
"I Run To You" has clearly increased interest in the album, and it's also given the three members a little freedom to take their time working on the next project, for which they've currently recorded about seven tracks.
"This song has really just taken on a life of its own," lead vocalist Cha rles Kelley says. "You can tell that the lyrics really hit home for people because they are on their feet from the first note. And we're not making it easy for them either because we added a really cool surprise intro to the live version. It is one of the biggest moments in our set now."
They roll out a set Friday at Nashville's LP Field during the annual CMA Music Festival, and it's a very strong bet that "I Run To You" will be part of the proceedings. Also appearing that night: Jason Aldean, Rodney Atkins, Luke Bryan, Little Big Town, Jake Owen and the Zac Brown Band.
