May 4, 2009 — Jason Michael Carroll's new album, Growing Up Is Getting Old, has the early lead as the most clever title of a new country project in 2009.
But there's a serious side to it, too, since the phrase represents his attempts at achieving adulthood without losing the very best qualities of youth.
"Everybody tells me a lot of times to act your age, but you know, there are so many awesome things about not really growin' up," he says. "It's a matter of hangin' out and bein' loose, hangin' with your friends, doin' all kinds of things, but at the same time realizin', 'I can't stay out too late tonight, I can't have that to drink, I can't do this because I've got a show tomorrow, or I've got interviews first thing in the mornin'.' Man, growin' up i s gettin' old. So I think I live both ways."
The album's first single, "Where I'm From," currently ranks at No. 16 on the Country Aircheck chart.
