May 5, 2009 — Keith Urban's Escape Together World Tour kicks off Thursday at the Mohegan Sun Arena in Connecticut, and he'll have a plethora of opening acts during the run, including the Academy of Country Music's Top New Vocal Duo or Group, the Zac Brown Band.
The Georgia-based act earned its first hits in the last 12 months with "Chicken Fried" and "Whatever It Is," and Keith is impressed with the band's quality.
"There's just sort of a real effortless simplicity," Keith told Suzanne Alexander on the national radio show GAC Nights: Live From Nashville. "You want to sing along with them, even if I can't figure out that he's singing 'whatever it is,' with the way he sings. It's like, 'What is he saying?' Goodddly, badddado — I have no clue what you're singing?' But it sounds so good that I'm just joining in. And then I realize it's really good lyrics as well."
Zac and crew have their first date on Keith's tour May 14 in St. Paul, Minn. Others who'll take the opening slot in the coming months include Sugarland, Taylor Swift, Glen Campbell and Jason Aldean.
